Duncan Gichimu

SoCreate continues to grow our team of software engineering talent with the recent addition of Duncan Gichimu. Duncan was a standout graduate of the Fullstack Academy coding boot camp, where he honed skills he’s been building since high school. And SoCreate couldn’t help but take notice!

The Fullstack program is competitive and intense, but Duncan is no stranger to these two adjectives. He’s been coding since he was a teenager and won 3 national championships with his BDPA (Black Data Processing Associates) chapter, all before he graduated high school.

After studying mathematics and economics in college, Duncan went on to grow his career at an e-commerce startup. Unsatisfied with the day to day workflow, he wrote Python programs to automate daily systems and earned a promotion to Operations & Automation Manager.

“The motto in my office was ‘work is for robots; life is for humans,’” he added.

Duncan would later go on to work as an independent computer science contractor, but found the competition was stiff. “It was really tough competing with international engineers with degrees in CS and experience working as software engineers, so I decided to take a boot camp,” he said. “I gained a great foundation.” The rest is SoCreate history!

“I wanted to work for SoCreate because the company shares my passion for continuing education,” Duncan said. “This is a place where I can grow and achieve my goal of being an expert software engineer.”

And there are other perks of the job location. “I love the wineries, lack of traffic, the ocean and the silence,” Duncan added. “I’m also looking forward to eating at all of the best restaurants.”

Duncan, who is a fan of anime films, is excited for what the future holds for SoCreate’s screenwriting platform, noting that he’s “most excited about the SoCreate software launch and what happens after that. I want to see how Justin’s overall vision will be implemented.”

We’re so glad he’ll be part of the team that makes the SoCreate vision come to life! Welcome to the team, Duncan. You earned it!
