Location: EXT – A Southern California Beach – Day
Characters: Steve; Jenna
Scene Description: Steve (68) and his daughter Jenna (40) sit in beach chairs staring out at the sea, weary from their tough conversation about Jenna’s mom. But then, an unexpected character catches her eye.
Prompt: Write a scene about the character that waltzes in front of Jenna and her dad, Steve. Who is this person, and what do the three people have to say to each other?
Extra Credit: Use @Mentions! If your character needs to mention another character, location, or prop that already exists in your story in its dialogue, type the ‘@’ sign to bring up the Quick Add tool to @mention that character, location, or prop. For example, if character Steve is talking about character Jenna holding the prop Umbrella outside the location Beach, Mention @Jenna, the @Umbrella, and the @Beach. By doing this, all of these mentions will be automatically updated if their details change as your story evolves. For example, if Jenna is mentioned 30 times in your story throughout Action, Dialogue, and Notes but you want to change her name to Sharon, you'd only have to change her name in one place, one time, and SoCreate updates Jenna to Sharon wherever she is @mentioned.
By completing this prompt, you can exercise your creativity in just a few minutes a week. Plus, you can use SoCreate's unique character and location imagery tools to help you visualize the scene and keep track of your past writing challenges from your SoCreate dashboard.
Establishing a weekly writing habit can help you improve your writing skills and find your unique voice as a writer. You might even discover new genres or writing projects that you hadn't considered before.
