Content Rating and Classification
Content Rating: All content published or shared via SoCreate must be rated according to the Motion Picture Association film rating system guidelines. It is your responsibility to assign the appropriate rating to your content based on its subject matter and language. For guidance on rating your content, please refer to the Motion Picture Guidelines and see below. Members who incorrectly rate their content are at risk of being banned from the platform.
G (General Audiences) - This rating signifies that a story contains nothing in theme, language, nudity, sex, violence, or other matters that would offend parents whose younger children view the story. The G rating is not a "certificate of approval," nor does it signify a "children's" story. Some snippets of language may go beyond polite conversation, but they are common everyday expressions. No stronger words are present in G-rated stories. Examples include animated films like Dreamworks' "Trolls" and live-action stories like Disney's "The Princess Diaries."
PG (Parental Guidance Suggested) - This rating indicates that some material may not be suitable for children. Stories rated PG may contain some profanity, mild violence, or brief nudity that is not sexually-oriented, but these elements are not deemed so intense as to require that parents be strongly cautioned. There is no drug use content in a PG-rated film. Examples of PG films include "Jumanji" and "Ghostbusters," where elements like fantasy violence and mild scares are present.
PG-13 (Parents Strongly Cautioned) - This rating is a stronger warning to parents that some material might be inappropriate for children under 13. PG-13 stories might include intense violence, infrequent strong language, partial nudity that is not sexually-orientated, minor suggestive themes, and simulated drug use. For instance, "Mean Girls" includes teen drinking, sexual material, and strong language, while the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy features intense action, violence, and brief nudity.
R (Restricted) - This rating clearly indicates that the story contains adult material such as harsh language, intense or persistent violence, sexually-oriented nudity, drug abuse, or other elements, so parents are counseled to take this rating very seriously. Children under 17 are not allowed to attend R-rated motion pictures unaccompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Movies like "Joker" depict strong, bloody violence and disturbing behavior, and "Fifty Shades of Grey" includes strong sexual content, profanity, and nudity.
NC-17 (Adults Only) - This rating is assigned to a movie the MPAA believes most parents will consider patently too adult for their children 17 and under. No NC-17 story is suitable for children. NC-17 does not mean "obscene" or "pornographic" in the common or legal meaning of those words but it does mean that the content is only appropriate for adult audiences. Films like "Pink Flamingos" exhibit graphic horror, violence, and gore, and "Showgirls" is marked by prolonged scenes of nudity, sexual violence, and erotic sexuality.
Content Genre: You must accurately assign a genre to your story that best reflects its narrative and thematic elements. Incorrect classification may result in corrective action by our moderators causing your work to be removed from the platform and your account to be banned.
