Writers can share their writing challenge responses for a chance to be featured here, like Elena.

This week's writing challenge was:

  • Location: INT – Subway Station – Night

  • Characters: Felipe; Joan

  • Scene Description: Felipe and Joan bolt down the stairs into a seedy subway station. Lights flicker, and it's dead empty.

  • Prompt: Write a scene showing Felipe and Joan in the subway station as they try to escape from something or someone. But that thing finds them! The audience can't see what is chasing them, only the characters' reactions.

Elena's writing skillfully built tension and suspense, leaving readers on the edge of their seats until the very end, where she revealed a clever (and timely!) twist.

You can read Elena's submission, which she wrote entirely in SoCreate on her phone, by clicking this link to the traditional screenplay output in PDF. Compare and contrast that black-and-white document to what her actual SoCreate software environment looks like below – wow, what a difference!

It's amazing to see the level of creativity that can be achieved with SoCreate's intuitive and user-friendly platform, even from a mobile device.

We enjoyed interviewing Elena to learn more about her writing style and aspirations. Elena enjoys writing horror, sci-fi, and fantasy short film scripts and is currently working on a revenge horror project. Despite the horrors she inflicts on her characters, Elena reminds us that she's a human with feelings 😊

When asked about her favorite lesson on storytelling, Elena advised not to fight the flow and to edit later.

Her favorite thing about SoCreate is the doodle and location images, which make the writing environment more enjoyable. And Elena admits to being a doodle sadist, making the characters' faces cry or angry for fun using SoCreate's dialogue direction tool!

Elena says writing can be frightening and freeing, and she encourages other SoCreate writers to join the fun!

So why not create a free SoCreate account and participate in the weekly writing challenge when it comes around next week? You never know; you might be the next winner!
